I have always had a fascination with the "home". I grew up in a heritage house that had evolved its room and purpose through several families before we arrived. And then my parents saw how to shift it again, to a home with a ground floor apartment for my grandmother. Then room for my cousin to move in. Later the drive shed became a rec room and so on. I spent my summers on a family farm that served multiple generations at a time from 1895 through to today. First two generations, then three. Then back to two, then back to three. Then down to one and a rental. Now back to three. We have a map of that home as it ebbed and flowed throughout the decades. The way a home works so often migrates through time. First the second bedroom is a guest room. Then a nursery. Then it's your first child's bedroom and then a teenager's. And then it becomes a home office. Those four (or more) walls encompass a history of your family, your priorities and your interests.
